Ingredients

Whiskey Frosting
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons whiskey
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.
- Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl until combined.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring gently to combine.
- Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth and thin.
- Fold in whiskey thoroughly to infuse the batter.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and tap pans to release air bubbles.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs and cake springs back lightly.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat softened butter on medium-high speed until creamy and pale, about 3 minutes.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing well.
- Stir in whiskey, vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream or milk until frosting is smooth and spreadable.
- Frost cooled cakes as desired and serve.

- Ensure cakes are fully cool before frosting to prevent melting.
- Adjust whiskey amount in frosting to taste.
- If desired, add a pinch of espresso powder to enhance chocolate flavor.
